Lanikai is a special suburban neighborhood located in Kailua, Hawaii. Lanikai is a coastal neighborhood with oceanfront properties as well as ocean views from mountainside homes. Lanikai is a small half-mile strip of beach that has been consistently ranked among the best beaches in the world. Lanikai is located on the east side of the island and because of that is also known for its amazing moonrise over the Mokulua islands. The Mokulua Islands are two islets about 0.75 miles off of Lanikai. The larger is Moku Nui and the smaller is Moku Iki.

Lanikai has a population of 2300 people in a concentrated housing area that lines Lanikai beach. Lanikai is rated among the most beautiful places in Hawaii and residents love access to swimming, water sports, recreational golf facilities, and being active out in the community (walking, running, biking, etc).

Lanikai is a wealthy neighborhood that is compromised primarily of ocean front homes or ocean view homes. The residents of Lanikai are primarily compromised of long duration tourist or wealthy retirees.

Lanikai is a small community which makes residents familiar with one another and new residents are welcomed easily into the community. Lanikai is located just 20 minutes outside of Kailua Town making it also easily accessible to grocery stores, shops, restaurants, and other entertainment.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Lanikai is located just outside of Kailua Town so has many options when it comes to dining, entertainment and shopping. Kailua Town offers many boutique, national known restaurants, local shops, and grocery stores.

Buzz’s Original Steak House, where steakhouse basics met Hawaiiana, opened in Lanikai in 1962. The restaurant became popular and known for the innovative concept of a salad bar. Guests were served steaks, hot off the grill and carried to the table on wooden platters after they finished their salads. This started a trend of having salads and steaks on separate plates. The trademark restaurant menu and décor have been copied all over the world.

Things to Do

Lanikai is known for its beautiful beach, Lanikai Beach. Just 0.75 miles off of Lanikai Beach is the Mokulua Islands. Watersports such as kayaking out to the Mokulua Islands is beautiful and fun, as well as SUP (stand up paddleboarding), surfing, kitesurfing, or swimming.

Lanikai Pill Boxes is a short hike that overlooks all of Lanikai and is known for it’s spectacular view of the Mokulua Islands.
